Anthony T Clarke MCOptom DipGlauc DipTp (IP)
Anthony is a Specialist Optometrist in Glaucoma and an Independent Non-medical Prescriber, one of only a very small number of Optometrists in the UK to have been awarded both post-graduate qualifications by the College of Optometrists. Anthony also works in a specialist glaucoma clinic at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. “Not all Optometrists are the same; the majority of UK Optometrists don’t obtain higher qualifications beyond their entry-level University degree and professional qualifying exams. My years of experience in community and hospital practice is backed-up by higher post-graduate qualifications that provides my clients with the confidence and reassurance that they are getting the best clinical care possible. Being an Independent Prescriber means that I can treat and manage a range of eye conditions without the inconvenience of referring patients to the GP or hospital for treatment. I am proud to be at the forefront of UK Optometry and raising the standard of eye care here in the heart of Market Harborough.”
Anthony did his undergraduate degree at Aston University, Birmingham, UK & did his Pre-Qualifying Year with Boots Opticians in Leicester.
More recently, Anthony was the Post-graduate Module Leader for Glaucoma at the Wales Optometric Post-graduate Education Centre (WOPEC) at Cardiff University, delivering post-graduate taught courses in glaucoma to qualified Optometrists from the UK and Europe. Anthony was also a member of the Professional Advisory Group to NHS England Leicestershire and Lincolnshire Area Team, advising on matters of professional conduct involving Optometrists, GPs, Pharmacists and Dentists.
Anthony grew up in Leicester and still has a fondness for the city despite now living in rural Rutland. Time permitting Anthony enjoys walking, cycling, music, reading & spending quality time with his two young sons.
