Raising the Standard of Eye Care
We are an independent Optometrist practice with a reputation for clinical excellence both locally and regionally.
Our years of experience in both community and hospital practice is supported by a combination of the highest professional qualifications in the UK (Diploma in Glaucoma and Diploma in Therapeutic Prescribing) and a commitment to invest in the latest technology, so that we can better assess and manage problems with vision and eye health.
Our exceptional clinical care is complimented by a fully qualified Dispensing Optician who is an expert in frames and lenses and who will ensure you have spectacles that look terrific, fit well, and you’ll enjoy wearing.
We take a long-term view of business & our practice, building long-term sustainable relationships with our clients based on the highest levels of clinical care & quality products. Unlike many other optical practices our focus is on you, not maximising profit.
Clarke & Roskrow Optometrists supports the NHS and provide sight tests on its behalf for eligible clients, under the General Ophthalmic Services (GOS) Contract. As part of an NHS-funded sight-test an Optometrist’s responsibility is to “detect signs of injury, disease or abnormality of the eye…”. An NHS sight-test does not cover the additional time required to conduct a comprehensive examination; it ends at the point at which a problem is detected. The NHS sight-test does not allow for more specialist tests that enable problems to be detected at an earlier stage or to clarify the nature of any problem detected. The NHS also makes no provision for the management and/or treatment of eye disease by community Optometrists. As owner/Optometrist Anthony Clarke has additional postgraduate qualifications, and many years of hospital practice, he can provide his clients with a much higher level of care than is funded by the NHS. Consequently, where a problem is detected, Anthony may offer additional, specialist consultations to investigate any problem further. Where possible this can be managed by Anthony without referral to a hospital eye clinic or General Practitioner. These consultations will be funded privately by the client. If onward referral is needed, Anthony’s extensive contacts with local Ophthalmologists means that clients can be referred promptly to the most appropriate Ophthalmologist.
